Rakkasan Tea Company derives its name from a unit in the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division—“Rakkasan” being the Japanese word for “parachutist.”
As an infantry officer, co-founder Brandon Friedman led Rakkasans in Iraq and Afghanistan, often drinking tea provided by locals. The experience gave him an idea that went beyond sharing his new-found love of hot tea. It was an idea to create a business that would help the economies of war-torn areas while investing in America’s veterans.
