Ceylon Smoke (Sri Lanka)

1.5 oz. (15 - 20 cups) or 6 oz. (75 cups)

Ceylon Smoke is our savory Sri Lankan version of a Chinese lapsang souchong — a smoked black tea. The tea is hand-picked outside the Sinharaja rainforest by artisan teamakers, then heavily smoked with freshly harvested cinnamon sticks. Its taste and aroma is reminiscent of a crackling campfire with a hint of cinnamon. You won't find it anywhere else!

Brewing instructions
Amount: 2 grams of loose tea per cup of water (a pinch)
Temperature: 212 ̊ (A full, rolling boil)
Steep time: 1 - 2 minutes

About Our Sri Lankan Tea

Formerly called Ceylon, the island of Sri Lanka has produced some of the finest tea in the world for the last 150 years. While the tea industry survived Sri Lanka’s 30-year-long civil war intact, it has also bolstered the entire country’s continued economic recovery since the war's end in 2009.

Light Smoke and Light Spice

If you don't like the heavily smoked lapsang souchongs, this one is worth trying for sure. It is really unusual but a nice tea. There's a light spice finish for me that I liked-more like cloves I thought but that is likely the smoke and cinnamon. I am more of a fan of heavier smoke, but this was really worth the tasting. Plus I am glad to support tea makers (and a tea company) that cares so much about quality for good causes.

just right

Received a sample packet of this tea -- I love lapsang souchong and it was *the* tea, from another company, that I drank on a hike in the Canadian Rockies, so the aroma evokes all the wonderfulness of that plus memories of the freak near-blizzard that made me drink lots of tea hunkered down.

It has been a while since I have drunk L.S. again....this one is lovely. Since I don't have the taste buds to experience half the descriptions written of a tea's flavor, all I can tell you is I very much liked this one because it is not overly-flavored, it has that great smokey aroma but not overwhelming...kinda like a New England gentle snowfall in the quiet woods, instead of a howler above treeline.

And thanks to the company for throwing the sampler in at the very last minute on a previous order. I don't buy loose-leaf tea anywhere else.

I have been looking for a smoky black tea (not Lapsang Souchong). This is my 4th try and it is the closest. Smooth, low campfire smoke - definitely not tobacco smoke that I have gotten from others. My only wish is that it was a deeper, stronger smoke. Otherwise, I am enjoying this tea and for those who don’t like a very strong smoked tea, this is perfect.

Awsome smoky tea

I love smoked teas so I had to try this one from Rakkasan. So I ordered a tin and quickly fell in love with this. Since then I've ordered 2 more bags, and this tea quickly is at the top of my favorite list of all of the teas that I've tried from Rakkasan. Sadly as I type this, I've just finished a mug of this tea. Awsome aroma, awsome taste.

Great smoky taste

This is the best smoked tea ever! Wonderful flavor and aroma—even my partner, who doesn’t like tea, loves the aroma of this one.
